Obsidian

Questions answered

Do I have to pay for commercial use?

No. You are not required to pay for a commercial license, however if you are using Obsidian for work in an organization, the company encourages you to purchase a commercial license to keep Obsidian independent and 100% user-supported.

Do you store, access, or process user data?

Obsidian stores notes locally on your device, making them inaccessible to the company. The app does not collect telemetry data and user data is never sold. If you use Obsidian Sync, data is secured with AES-256 end-to-end encryption, preventing the company from reading it.

What benefits does the Catalyst license grant?

By becoming a Catalyst member, you receive early access to beta versions of Obsidian and special badges within the community. Catalyst helps Obsidian remain 100% user-supported and free from investor influence.

Do you offer discounts for education, nonprofits, or other groups?

Yes. Students, faculty members, and nonprofit employees are eligible for a 40% discount on Obsidian Sync and Publish.

What is your refund policy?

Full refunds are offered within 7 days of purchase with no questions asked for Obsidian Sync and Publish. However, Catalyst licenses, Commercial licenses, and Obsidian Credit are non-refundable.
