About Open Source

This is the Open Source desk. Every product here publishes its source code, so a reader can inspect it, run it and, licence permitting, change it. Finished applications, code libraries, tools you host yourself and open AI work all sit under this one heading, each filed in the week it launched.

The page lists the products and businesses in this category and in its four subcategories, with filters to narrow the column. Listings appear newest first by default. Readers can sort by community votes instead, and votes can never be bought. Nothing is ranked by payment.

Founders choose one main category when they submit, included free. If your project has a public repository, this is the natural home for it. Check the licence and the documentation before you commit to anything: they tell you more than any headline.

Open Source: questions answered

What belongs in the Open Source category?
Products whose source code is publicly available, whether a finished app, a library, a self-hosted service or an AI model and its tooling. If the code is closed and only a free tier is offered, it belongs in a different category.
How do I choose between the four subcategories?
Pick the one that matches how people use the product. Apps are used directly, libraries are built into other software, self-hosted tools run on your own servers, and open source AI covers models and their tooling. Your main category is chosen when you submit.
How do I get my open source project listed here?
Go to /submit and paste your website address. An AI drafts the profile from that site, and you check and edit every field before anything goes live. A paid launch costs $5; a free listing joins a queue of about 6-8 weeks.
Can a project appear in more than one category?
Every listing has exactly one main category, included free. A paid upgrade adds up to 3 more categories for $5, which suits a project that straddles, say, self-hosting and AI.
What should I check when comparing open source options?
Read the licence first, then the documentation and how recently the project has been updated. Look at how it is installed and maintained, and whether you could move your data out. Votes show community interest, but they do not replace your own testing.
