Unscript is an iPhone app that teaches spoken English through real-life conversations. Users run one dialogue four times with progressively less of the script visible: Beginner shows the full line, Intermediate blanks half the key words, Advanced shows only first letters, and Ultra hides the line entirely. Each level requires at most one wrong word per line to pass.
The app scores word by word after you speak, records your voice for playback, and includes a 2,582-entry glossary with definitions in 17 languages. All speech recognition, dialogues, and glossary data stay on your phone; no audio is uploaded. The app contains 562 dialogues across 61 real-life situations like ordering coffee, shopping, and workplace conversations.
The free tier includes 44 dialogues across 22 domains at all four levels. Pro unlocks all 562 dialogues. Finished dialogues return at 1, 3, 7 and 14 days for spaced repetition, and progress syncs through iCloud if enabled.

Questions answered
- Do I need to be online?
- No. Dialogues, the glossary and speech recognition are all on the phone; airplane mode works. Only feedback and purchases need a connection.
- What happens if the app doesn't recognise what I say?
- Check that Microphone and Speech Recognition are allowed in Settings. If your device doesn't support on-device English recognition, the app switches to keyboard input: type the line, and scoring works exactly the same.
- How do I clear a level?
- At most one wrong word per line, on every line. That is the only rule; there is no percentage to remember.
- What languages is the app in?
- The interface comes in 17 languages. Word definitions and the line-by-line translation are separate settings, so you can read the interface in English and still get definitions in your own language. The dialogues themselves are always English.
- How do I cancel my subscription?
- Go to Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Unscript. Apple manages the subscription; the lifetime purchase never renews.
